An Urs procession of sufi saint Hazrat Sayyed Kamaal Shah (Lanka Pati Baba) started today at the shrine located at Bhadbhuja Ghati with the recital of Holy Quran soon after the Zohar Namaz.

Later the custom of Chadar Sharif was observed by the devotees who walked to the Dargah from Anjuman Chowk at around 5.45 pm and this was followed by ‘Kul’ including the prayers and distribution of fruits and other eatable to the kids.

At night, there was an arrangement of mass feast organized by the Jagruk Mevafarosh Naujavan Committee .

Salim Mohammad Mevafarosh, Secretary of the Mevafarosh Community informed, “On the occasion of the Urs a program of Milad was organized at Anjuman Chowk in which Devotional Songs (Naath) were presented by various famous Islamic scholars including Mulana Sanabi -e- Raja from U.P, Maulana Fakhruddin from Maharashtra and Firoz Asmati from Pali.”

As per the stories said by his forefathers, Salim Mohammad said that there is a famous story behind this typical name ‘Lankapati Baba’ for Sayyed Kamal Shah. According to what he was told by his ancestors, one day a Maharana was on his way to a temple named after Lanka and the saint was sitting outside his residence.

When Maharana passed by the saint, saint Kamal Shah asked the king that where he was going.Maharana replied with respect that he was going to Mandi,  then the Saint invited him to come inside his house and put over his blanket on Maharana’s head.

Suddenly the sight of the mandir appeared in front of the Maharana and astonished by the miracle the king gave this name to the saint with which he is still known today as Lanka Pati Baba.’
