Accidentally deleted photos? Learn how to recover them using Google Photos

Here are methods to recover your deleted photos

Google Drive

At certain times, many of us have mistakenly deleted important photos, and we get relief when we are able to recover them. Usually, when a photo is deleted from Google Photos, it is automatically sent to the Trash folder. Deleted photos that have been backed up are stored in the Trash for 60 days, whereas photos that have not been backed up are kept for 30 days. You can recover photos and videos only while they are located in your Trash folder. Once you empty the Trash folder, its contents cannot be retrieved.

Based on information from Google Support, if you haven't used Google Photos for 2 years or more, restoring deleted photos may not be possible. In such cases, your content may be permanently deleted. Additionally, if you exceed your storage limit for 2 years or more, all your content, including photos, will also be erased.

Below are methods to recover your deleted photos in Google Photos.

Review the Trash folder

To retrieve deleted photos from the Trash folder, find the photo you want to restore and click on the option to restore it. The photo will be returned to either your phone's gallery or your Google Photos library.

Review the Archive folder

At times, people unintentionally transfer their photos to the Archive and mistakenly think they've deleted them. It's beneficial to check the Archive folder for any photos that appear to be missing. If you find your missing photos in the Archive folder, select the 'Unarchive' option to restore them back to your gallery.

Refer to Google Support

Choose the option that best suits your current needs.Provide a reason for why you require Google to restore the photos or files. If feasible, Google may be able to recover the deleted photos or files.
