Lying down at the lobby of Maharana Bhopal Hospital, Nanalal from Badi Sadri is waiting for doctors to remove his plaster for the last 4 days. Unfortunately, Nanalal is not alone. There are many such cases; a lot of patients suffering as they are unable to get access to a bed, stretcher or wheel chair.

Of the many wards and sections for different purposes, the condition of the Trauma Sectiom is the most pathetic.

There are two wards in the Trauma section, one each for males and females respectively and both wards are again divided into three units A, B and C,each of them being managed by one doctor each.

The sad part is that while all the beds are occupied, many patients are forced to lie on the hard floor due to lack of infrastructure.

Stretchers are kept ChainedTraumatic Condition of Udaipur Trauma Center

Of the measly three stretchers and one wheel chair available in the entire Traum Section building, none is available to patients freely as they are kept chained! If one requires any of them, a ‘chai-pani’ has to be given to some ward boys.

Cooler for Doctors but no fans for patients

In the scorching hot climate, some patients are dependent on the searing air coming in from windows as there are no fans installed on the roof of one of the wards. The doctors in the meanwhile, enjoy the cooling of air coolers.

To add to this, unruly behavior of the staff on duty, especially with the villagers is creating further discomfort and disillusionment with a high priority public service setup.

It needs to be noted that the M.B. Hospital is the biggest and most sought after lifeline by residents of Udaipur and looked up to by the villagers from far and near. However, given the pathetic status of infrastructure and behaviorial aspects of this institution, much control, monitoring and continual training is the need of the hour.
