November 6, 2024. A temporary structure under construction for the Bullet train project in Anand, Gujarat, collapsed yesterday killing three workers and injuring one. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing by Anand police and fire department officials.
Earlier, reports had suggested the collapse of an under-construction bridge but later, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said the accident involved a temporary steel and concrete structure at the pit foundation site near the Mahi river.
According to information, the incident occurred at the construction site of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train corridor in Vasad village of Anand district. The men were crushed under blocks made of steel and concrete, each weighing 2.5 tonne, after they fell while being transported to fill a pit being dug. The wire carrying them snapped.
As soon as the news of the accident was received, Anand police and fire brigade teams rushed to the site and began rescue operations.
Authorities have ordered an investigation into the accident.
Of the 20 river bridges planned in Gujarat for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, 12 have been completed. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project spans a total of 508 kilometres, with 352 kilometres in Gujarat and 156 kilometres in Maharashtra. The project includes a total of 12 stations, planned at locations like Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
