A collision between a passenger jeep and a tanker resulted in the death of 4 people, two of whom died on the spot while 2 died while under treatment at hospital. One person is reportedly seriously injured and under treatment.
The accident happened at 11am on NH8, which is the Udaipur Ahmedabad highway, at Parai village near Parsad. As per reports, the deceased were travelling in a jeep and on their way to work at Kherwada – a daily routine. While the jeep was in transit, the driver lost control and the jeep hit the divider and went on the other side of the road, where it hit an oncoming tanker head on.
Deceased Om Prakash Dayma, Kamlesh Bunkar, Iqbal and Jamna Lal Gameti were employed with PWD and were on their way to work at Kherwada. The accident was so intense that the jeep was completely crushed and a crane had to be called in to evacuate the bodies and the injured. The three injured were taken to hospital, where two died and the third person is under treatment.
Overloaded jeeps and open autos are a regular sight on the highway as people transit to work across Udaipur – Kherwada and beyond on a regular basis. Though government and private buses are available, people who travel daily look for cheaper and quicker options, which thrives the illegal taxi business and at times results in such accidents.
