Udaipur, Dec 15, 2025 – Four people were killed in a tragic road accident on the Gogunda–Pindwara National Highway in Udaipur district on Sunday (December 14) at around 5:00 pm near Peer Ji Bavji. The accident occurred when the driver of a trailer, loaded with marble slabs, lost control of his vehicle and crushed a Fortuner car underneath it. At the same time, a cement tanker coming from behind rammed into a Gujarat-registered Brezza while another oncoming car was also caught in the accident.

Following the crash, chaos erupted on the highway, leading to a massive traffic jam stretching nearly five kilometres on both sides. Rural District president Pushkar Teli, who was passing through the area, initiated emergency rescue operations, informing the police and administrative officials.

Gogunda SHO Shyam Singh Charan, along with police personnel, Highway Patrolling Team member Bhagwat Singh Jhala and highway ambulance staff Kushvardhan Singh Jhala rushed to the spot. Girwa DYSP Gopal Chandel and Gogunda Tehsildar Praveen Kumar also arrived at the scene of the accident.

According to Gogunda SHO, Leela Kunwar, occupant of the Fortuner and wife of Bhanwar Singh, was killed on the spot after being crushed by the marble blocks. The deceased was a resident of Godon Ka Guda in the Sayra police station area. Three members of the same family who were travelling in the Brezza — Arvindbhai Thakur, Vikram Thakur and Prakash Thakur — and who were relatives of Banaskantha MP Ganiben Thakur, were also killed. Another passenger, Vikram Thakur, was injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Gogunda hospital.

Occupants of another car heading towards Udaipur were injured after being hit by the cement tanker. The injured include Bansilal, son of Tulsiram Pujari (resident of Nai), Pratap Singh, son of Bheru Singh Rajput, and Gangaram, son of Asharam Gameti.

After nearly two hours of intense efforts by villagers, police and the highway team, the deceased and the injured trapped inside the cars were rescued. The bodies were shifted to the Gogunda hospital mortuary, while the seriously injured were moved to the district hospital. According to police officials, post-mortem examinations of all four bodies will be conducted on Monday after receiving reports from the families.

Angry villagers accused the highway contractor of gross negligence and staged a protest at the site.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
