Udaipur, Feb 9, 2026: A female tourist was killed in a tragic road accident on Monday (February 9) afternoon on the Gogunda–Pindwara highway in Udaipur when a speeding trailer ran her over as she was crossing the street outside the Shrinathji Temple in Ghasiar.

According to information, the deceased was from Gujarat and was returning with her family after offering prayers at the temple.

The driver of the trailer fled from the scene after the accident. The authorities were informed after which the Badgaon police reached the spot and moved the body to the MB Hospital mortuary.

Police have registered a case against the unidentified trailer driver. CCTV footage from cameras installed along the highway is being examined to identify the vehicle and the driver.

Author's Note: Notably, the high risk zone opposite the temple at Ghasiyar should once again be under the scanner as this is the second consecutive incident within a month on the same location. There have been many fatal and near fatal incidents at that turn. Patrolling, speed check and safety arrangements for plying vehicles as well as pedestrians near the temple are needed as it is a dangerous part of the highway.  For one, it is a sloped section of the highway for vehicles coming from the Gogunda end towards Udaipur and to add on to the danger, there is a sharp turn. There are tea stalls and eateries at the turn to cater to the tourists and there is plenty of rush on that curve due to the temple, which is one of the holy sites in the area and is a must visit for pilgrim travellers and other tourists as well.
