Ahmedabad/Udaipur, June 12, 2025 — Air India flight number AI171, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff today. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which departed from Ahmedabad at 13:38 pm, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members. Among them were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 1 Canadian national, and 7 Portuguese nationals. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals.
The flight was headed to London with several notable passengers on board, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
According to initial reports, four passengers from Udaipur district were also on board. These include Shubham (24) and Shagun Modi (22), son and daughter of prominent marble businessman Sanjeev alias Pinku Modi, residents of Saheliyon ki Badi, Udaipur. Also on board were Vardichand from Mavli block and Prakash Menaria from Menar village in Vallabhnagar.
The news of the crash has sent a wave of shock and mourning through Udaipur. District Collector Namit Mehta and ADM (Administration) Deependra Singh personally visited the Modi residence in Saheli Nagar to meet the family and gather details of the incident. Officials assured the family of all possible support.
