Army Jawan Drowns in Lake during Training

An Indian Army Jawan drowned in the Badi Lake near Udaipur today morning while undergoing a training session. Local Divers and a rescue team of the Indian Army attempted the search, but were not able to find the body of the victim even after more than 4 hours of search operation.

 
UPDATED 5:29 PM: The body of drowned Army man was found at 2:10 by Army rescue team. The body is transferred to mortuary.

According to the Police, there was a training camp of 25 – Rajaputana Rifles (Alwar) c/o 56 APO at Badi Lake. The incident took place when soldiers were instructed to walk on a rope tied from one point of the lake shore to another point while carrying arms and luggage.

One of the Jawans,  Umar Mohammad,36, accidently slipped from the rope and fell into the lake. It is assumed that due to the dense underbrush inside the lake, the victim might have got trapped and could not come out.

According to sources, soon after the incident, military officials came into action and asked for additional rescue and help. Two military choppers from Jodhpur with rescue divers and a few higher officials landed near Badi Lake.

Local police including Dy S.P. Dayanand Sarang, C.I. of Ambamata and Nai Police Stations also reached the spot.

To assist the army’s team of divers, local rescue divers were also called but the body was not found even after more than 4 hours of constant search.

Army officials denied commenting anything on the incident.
