Crane Crashes on Train in Thailand: 22 Killed
More than 70 are reported injured after a construction crane collapses onto a moving passenger train in northeast Thailand near Bangkok
Jan 14, 2026 – Twenty-two people were feared killed in a deadly accident north-east of Bangkok on Wednesday (January 14) morning when a construction crane crashed on top of a train carriage. More than 70 people are reported to have been injured in the mishap, some of them seriously, according to the local police.
The accident took place around 9:00 am (2:00 am GMT) on Wednesday in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, 230 km (143 miles) northeast of Bangkok, as per reports. It is feared the death toll number will rise even as rescue workers were trying to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage.
According to reports, the crane fell on the carriage of a moving passenger train which was going from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province. The train, reportedly carrying 195 on board, was derailed and briefly caught fire after the crane collapsed on it.
The crane was part of a $5.4-billion high-speed rail project.
