A lady was killed on the spot yesterday evening after being crushed under a truck that was coming in the wrong direction outside Krishi Mandi, Savina.

The lady and her husband, Titardi residents, had gone for shopping at Krishi Mandi yesterday evening. While they were returning back, a truck coming from the wrong direction hit them. The husband was thrown off the vehicle on the side of the road while the lady got crushed under the truck. She died on the spot after the truck tyre went over the stomach.

Looking at the crowd gather around, the truck driver fled away from the scene. Police has confiscated the truck and had the body moved to mortuary. Given that it was evening, post mortem was not done and will be carried out today morning.

Truck coming from the wrong direction has been attributed to absence of a divider along the road. Because of this, people there said that a large number of heavy vehicles enter the Mandi from the wrong direction.

People in the Mandi area have demanded that a divider be built on the road and encroachments outside the area be removed so that accidents may be averted in future.
