Goa Nightclub Fire Accused Luthra Brothers Detained in Thailand
India issued international notices and impounded their passports to bring them back
Dec 11, 2025 - The fugitive owners of the nightclub in Goa, where a deadly fire claimed 25 lives, were taken into custody Thursday morning by Thai police on the request of Indian law enforcement. Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra had fled to Thailand immediately after the fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora on December 6-7 night. According to investigators, the brothers boarded an IndiGo flight to Phuket at 5:30 am, barely a few hours after the fire which points to an "attempt to flee the country and evade arrest".
The Luthra brothers have been accused of negligence causing death for organising a fire show at the nightclub without proper fire safety equipment and no emergency exit door on the ground or the deck floor.
The Indian government had initiated international coordination mechanisms, including an Interpol Blue Corner notice, to have the two accused apprehended and deported from Thailand. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has impounded the passports of Saurabh and Gaurav which means they cannot stay out of the country legally.
As per reports, a team from India has already left for Phuket to bring the brothers back.
