Mother of the deceased 2-year-old child who died in the last night major road mishap at Gudli also passed away today morning at around 11:30 during treatment. After the recent death today, the toll of accident fatality rises to three people.

Shockingly, the child who succumbed to his injuries last night, after been squashed by the truck that collapsed over him was rescued alive, but died while rushing to the hospital.

The misfortune fell over Rajendra Singh Rathore and his family as lady of the house, Gajendra Kanwar and two-and-a-half-year-old son Bapu died, while his daughter Nidhi suffered fractures in both legs.

Another victim, Bansilal Mali died on the spot, when the loaded truck in an attempt to save from the car-crash turned aside, seizing two motorcycles passing through its side.

The accident raises many questions, but from the common man to top administrative authorities, no responsible statement has been given by anyone.

The first question is, during the three hours of rescue operation, why the team of paramedics and doctors were not sent on-the-spot to receive the injured child? Why the ambulance had only two people (one driver and a helper)? Why emergency services, like Ambulances are not equipped with enough medical tools or any life saving instruments, except only an oxygen cylinder? Why there is no step taken yet to initiate the over bridge project at the place which is known as one of the most accident prone areas of Udaipur? Who is responsible for the life of a 2-year-old, his mother and another person who could not be saved?

About the availability of medical facilities in emergency situation, when UT called Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr. R. N. Bairwa; he kept the phone saying, “I am busy with my family in attending a wedding in Jaipur and I can talk only after coming to Udaipur”.

When approached to the Sarpanch of the area, to ask what they did to stop such mishaps and did they ever asked higher administration to construct an over bridge? – The Sarpanch, Lalita Choudhary was not available, but her husband Ashok Choudhary told UT, “such accidents are common in the area, and this is NHAI’s responsibility not ours.”

In a relaxed manner, Choudhary said, “I was out in a wedding when this accident took place, I also own a Bolero car, so my family got worried and called me for my wellbeing”.

Vijay Singh Baghela, a localite of the area and employed in Debari Power House said, “we have demanded over bridge several times, 12 people were killed in another major accident in this area and we demonstrated against that, but the outcome was nothing, however, in return, government lodged complaint against us and many of us are still visiting court for trials”.

Editor’s Point of View

An over bridge could help reducing heavy vehicles from the road and a team of paramedics and doctors could save the critically injured child.

But, the lethargy, irresponsive and self-seeking attitude is indulged so deep in every one of us that we cannot react at any cost, before any of our family members become victim of such “system-failure”.
