PM Modi Visits Ahmedabad Air Crash Site

Large-scale DNA sampling of the victims’ remains is being carried out; final death toll after identification of all victims

June 13, 2025 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site of the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash today, June 13, morning, amid heavy police deployment. Later, in a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy”.

He held a meeting with Ministers and official a day after the ill-fated Air India flight bound for London Gatwick crashed within minutes of take-off killing all but one passengers. The Prime Minister visited the injured in Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital and also met the sole survivor of the crash - 40-year-old British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.

Meanwhile, large-scale DNA sampling of the victims’ remains is being carried out. Relatives at the hospital are giving their DNA sample for matching with the victims. According to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, the final death toll will be known only after the DNA tests are over.

The crash site is being cleared of the debris as the city struggles to slowly limp back to normalcy.
