A roadways bus had a sudden brake-fail at Kailashpuri ghata on Monday evening. The driver and the conductor showed presence of mind and saved the lives of the passengers. The roadways bus was on its way to Amet from Udaipur. It left the depot at around 5:30 p.m. Around 6:30 p.m. when the bus was going down the Kailsahpuri ghata, the brakes failed. The driver intimated the conductor of the situation and slowed down the bus by changing gears. The conductor immediately jumped out of the bus and gathered stones as obstructions to stop the bus from rolling. The bus went up the stones twice repeatedly and after a short while stopped at the other spot with a jerk where there were more stones. This way 40 passengers heaved a sigh of relief. Eyewitnesses said that had the driver and conductor not been alert and active, it would have proved fatal for the passengers.
