Nov 5, 2025 – At least six people were run over and killed this morning by a train at Chunar Junction in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, when crossing the railway track from the wrong side. The death toll is expected to rise as official figures are awaited.
The incident occurred when passengers had got off from the Chopan-Prayagraj Express and attempted to cross the tracks. They had got off the train on the side opposite to the main platform. A passing Kalka Mail, running at high speed through platform number 3, caught them unawares and hit them before they could move to safety.
Senior officers rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences at the deaths and instructed speedy relief work.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the deadly train collision near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, November 4, has risen to 11 with 20 others injured. State Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia payment for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Indian Railways has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the next of kin of the dead; Rs 5 lakh for the seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
