Stampede at Venkateswara Temple in Andhra; 10 Dead

Nov 1, 2025 – At least 10 people were reportedly killed and several injured in a stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, this Saturday morning where devotees had gathered for worship on the occasion of Ekadashi.
The rush of people at the temple in Kasibugga led to overcrowding and sudden stampede. According to the police, the gathering swelled beyond control and several people were crushed as the crowd pushed forward.
The injured have been admitted to hospital and it is feared that the death toll could rise. Additional police forces have been deployed to bring the situation under control.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a statement of condolence saying, "My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000."
Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed grief at the incident and the loss of lives. In a post on X, he wrote, “The stampede incident at the Venkateswara Temple in Kashibugga in Srikakulam district has caused a shock. The death of devotees in this tragic incident is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.”
The CM has directed urgent relief measures at the accident site and given instructions to ensure speedy recovery of those injured.
