In a major breakthrough, Sukher Police have nabbed 3 suspected thieves yesterday afternoon from Badgaon’s slum area. The thieves have confessed to be involved in 28 incidents of thefts in Udaipur in the recent past.

Acting on a tip off, police raided a place in the slum area of Badgaon where 6 suspected thieves were said to be hiding. Three of the group managed to escape, while the remaining three were caught by the police team.

Ramesh s/o Mohan Lal Kalbelia, resident of Manoharpura, Udaipur; Narayan s/o Shankar lal Kalbelia, resident of Pratapnagar and Aakashnath s/o Mithoo Lal Rangaswami were arrested while Govind Kalbelia, Lal Kalbelia and Khema Kalbelia are still at large.

In the initial interrogation, they accepted to commit thefts from various houses in Pratapnagar and Sukher Police Station areas.

According to police, they did at least 28 thefts in the areas including Sukher, Fatehpura, Bhuwana, Thokar Circle, Meera Nagar, Navratna Complex Area and Siphon Circle.

Their modus operandi was to first mark the houses which were either abandoned or with possible wealthy family by disguising themselves as vegetable vendors and such. They later used to execute their thefts in the night or daytime, whichever sufficed.

Police will be presenting them in court today whereas the hunt for the remaining three, who fled the scene is also on.
