The crackdown of dozens of houses and commercial buildings started today at Goverdhan Vilas area where a bottleneck is structured from past several years effecting the National Highway 8.

Team of Udaipur Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) started demolition early morning today which continued till mid afternoon. During the process, the highway was closed while the traffic was re-routed from Paras Tiraha.

According to sources, the houses situated at the bottleneck were already vacant by the owners. Demolition and cleaning of debris will continue till 3^rd June.

After the demolition, the bottleneck area which was of 35ft wide will get stretched to 100ft.

According to Ram Nivas Mehta, Secretary, UIT, “Left outs of demolished houses will be cleared in next 24 hours. The process of demarcation will start on site once it gets cleared, so that road widening could be implemented soon.”

Mehta informed that total of 16 concrete constructions were demolished, most of the houses were multistory. Affected families are allotted plots in Transport Nagar area in ratio of land acquired, while affected business would be rehabilitated with equivalent shops soon after road construction.
