Dungarpur Woman’s Courage Saves Family from Drowning

Nov 26, 2025 - A major accident was narrowly avoided on Tuesday morning in Chhita village, of Dungarpur when a car slipped off a bridge and fell into a canal becoming half-submerged in water. The family inside the car screamed for help, but dozens of people standing on the bridge merely watched. At that moment, a village woman named Surta displayed extraordinary courage—she jumped into the water without worrying about her own life and rescued the entire family trapped inside the car.

According to information, around 11:00 am, while crossing a narrow bridge in the village, the car lost balance and plunged straight into the canal. As soon as the car began sinking, the family members started shouting for help. A crowd gathered, but no one dared enter the water.

Meanwhile, Surta, a resident of Dhatini Talai, saw the mishap and immediately ran toward the water body. Realising the seriousness of the situation, she stepped into the water without any delay. After continuous effort, she managed to rescue every person trapped in the car, one by one. Shortly after, an ambulance arrived and took the injured to the hospital while the police also reached the spot.

After the incident, Surta said, “Everyone was just standing on the bridge and watching. I felt it was necessary to save them immediately—any delay could have cost lives. So I went into the water alone. Thankfully, everyone survived.”

Surta’s brave act is being widely praised. Villagers say that the courage and quick action she showed in saving lives is truly admirable and she deserves to be honoured.
