53 Danger Zones in Udaipur district – Speed breakers and indicators missing

Udaipur district has 53 danger zones. Speed breakers and traffic indicators are also missing which resulted in a number of accidental deaths in last 2 years.

28 danger zones on National Highways and 25 on PWD roads have resulted in almost 250 plus deaths in last two years. This report was sent to the Transport department by Police administration with a suggestion that lives can be saved if these zones have speed-breakers, barricades, indicator signs, under-pass, over-bridge etc.

It has been reported that these NHAI and PWD zones witnessed 138 deaths in 53 places in the year 2016 which outnumber 118 deaths in 2015. With the increase in deaths due to road accidents, the malfunctioning of Central and State Government, NHAI and PWD, Transport Department and Traffic police has been revealed. District administration is now trying to reform its road safety policies to control such mishaps.

RTO MannaLal Rawat said that new road safety policies are being developed by Collector Vishnu Charan Mallik. The Collector has issued orders for creating reports on the areas which are accident prone. He has also ordered for the encroachments to be strictly dealt with so that pedestrians can utilise footpaths. Zebra crossings and indicators are also to be updated, said the Collector in a meeting on Thursday. As per his orders, heavy transport vehicles should not be allowed to enter heavy public areas. Haphazard parking on roadside will now be strictly dealt with. He laid emphasis on the improvement of condition of traffic in the city. A special action plan will be co-ordinated by transport department, traffic police, PWD, NHAI for regulating smooth and safe traffic in the city.

RTO MannaLal Rawat said that Road safety project will be carried out in Udaipur city from 5th to 15th July. The Collector also added that all accident prone areas should be marked with immediate effect and action needs to be taken after analysing the causes behind accidents. He said that 60 percent accidents occur due to wrong driving and 40 percent due to technical errors which need to be rectified at the earliest. Pratap Nagar Crossing and Bhuwana bypass have a lot of trucks and tractors parked here and there which invite trouble. Vehicles parked on service roads should be removed and strictly handled.
