Udaipur, January 9, 2025 - Rajasthan High Court has issued a directive to the State government to ensure that the Elevated Road project follows all safety standard rules set by the Indian Roads Congress (IRC). The IRC is the apex body in India for formulating and promoting standards, codes and guidelines for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads and bridges across the country.

The Elevated Road is a Rs 137-crore project that will stretch for 2.5 kilometres from the City Station to the Collector’s residence. Although it is officially referred to as a two-lane project, its width in fact will be equivalent to three lanes.

The Court ruling was passed on a petition filed by former Councillor Gaurav Pratap Singh. In his petition, Singh's lawyer Farhan Khan had alleged that the construction of the Elevated Road was not following IRC safety guidelines. The claim was based on the project report and various other documents

In response, advocate Rajesh Pawar argued that due attention has been given to safety norms in the construction of the Elevated Road.

The Court, without examining the documents presented by the petitioner, ruled that the relevant authorities should comply with the established safety guidelines and that public safety must be ensured.
