Administrative Capitalism put Lakes at Risk

In the continuing battle between the pen pushers of various administrative departments, Lakes of Udaipur are losing their charisma and magnificence. The future of the city’s lakes looks bleak as none of the departments are ready to own responsibility.

The news sparked through local dailies a few days ago when the Divisional Commissioner, Subodh Kumar Agrawal ordered the Municipal Council to take care of the lakes while at the same time, it is known that the monetary gains from lakes go to the Lake Conservation Committee.

However, Municipal Commissioner S. N. Acharya says, “The Council is not denying taking the responsibility for the conservation and guarding of the lakes but this is unfair that, Municipal Council will bear the maintenance charges and the revenue goes to the Lake Conservation Committee”.

Acharya also said, “We are proceeding as per the guidelines of G.S. Sandhu, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Housing.”

“The ruling party and the opposition as well, are unified on the issue that the conservation and the capital as well should be handed over to the Municipal Council,” he added.

“We are awaiting further instructions from the Principal Secretary,” said Acharya while talking to UT.

When UT tried to reach the Divisional Commissioner Subodh Agrawal, he refused to talk.
