Protests under the 35 year old movement seeking to establish a bench of the Rajasthan High Court at Udaipur, under Mewar-Wagad High Court Bench Sangharsh Committee and the Bar Association, continued today.

Advocates did not participate in judicial proceedings during the day and even stamp vendors and typists in the Court premises shut shop to support the movement.

Demonstrations were held at the main entrance of the District Court premises and a public gathering was organized, chaired by the Coordinator of the Committee, Shanti Lal Chaplot.  Members of the Committee, viz. Bharat Kumar Joshi, Kanchan Singh Hiran, Fateh Lal Nagori, Rajendra Singh Hiran, Arun Vyas, Satyendra Pal Singh, Ramkripa Sharma, Kailash Bhardwaj, Sayyed Hussain and Moti Singh Ranawat alongwith Yashwant Rajora of the City District Congress Committee, addressed the audience.

Demonstrators and addresses were directed towards the 35 years of effort put in by the committee in demanding a Bench of the Rajasthan High Court based on geographic, historical and economic reasons, and the count of the number of cases from Udaipur division that are referred to the Bench in Jodhpur.  The absence of trains from Banswara, Dungarpur or Udaipur to Jodhpur makes it very inconvenient to the public as well.

In the addresses, the demonstrators also mentioned that where the State and Central Government are establishing Village Courts, etc under the judicial decentralization activities, nothing is being done towards decentralization of High Court bench.

Considering the above valid reasons, it is justifiable that a High Court bench be established in Udaipur so provide accessible, economical and immediate justice to the people of the region.

Post demonstrations, a human chain was created at the Court Chauraha, and traffic was blocked in the area.

Working members of the Bar Association, viz. Gopal Singh Chauhan, Ramlal Jat, Yashwant Menariya, Sheetal Nandwana, Manish Khandelwal, Bhanwar Singh Devda, Abdul Hanif, Devilal Gurjar, Bansi Lal gavaria, Lalit Soni, Bharat Singh Rao, Surendra Paliwal, Rajesh Upadhyay, among other were present in the demonstrations.

A memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister and Minister of State for Law and Justice was presented to the Collector post the demonstrations.
