AI-Based Traffic Signal System on Trial at Fatehpura Circle

AI system to automatically adjust green signals based on traffic density

 |

Udaipur, Nov 12, 2025 – Traffic control at the city’s Fatehpura Circle will now be managed by an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered traffic signal. An AI-based control system has been installed here, and its trial will continue until November 16. A detailed report will be prepared after the trial.

The AI system will determine signal timing based on traffic density. Nearly 5,000 vehicles pass through this intersection daily. The lane with heavier traffic will automatically receive a green signal, helping to prevent congestion in other lanes.

Udaipur administration conducted a one-day trial on October 10. After improving internet and power connectivity, the formal trial began on November 9 and will continue until November 16.

During the trial, the heaviest traffic has been observed between 9–11 am and 6–9 pm — the hours when people travel to and from offices and markets. During these times, long queues form in every lane. Most vehicles come from the Sukhadia Circle direction, while the least traffic flows from Dewali and RK Circle.

AI cameras installed in all four directions are monitoring traffic in real time. These cameras count and record the number of vehicles passing from each side. Only for VIP movements and emergency vehicles (such as ambulances and fire brigades) is a manual green signal provided.

A private company’s team is overseeing the entire trial process.
