Central Jail Implements Strict Security Measures for Inmates

The city administration and law enforcers are showing immense concern on the growing incidents of gang wars in the city.

Police, City Jail Administration and all concerned institutions in the law enforcing fraternity have got their plans together in mitigating the risks associated with managing inmates from different gangs during their tenure in Jail.

As per the discussion of our reported with the Udaipur Central Jail Superintendent, Kailash Trivedi, the enforcing institutions have taken measures and prepared action plans to ensure security and strict surveillance of such inmates.

Kailash said that the Jail Administration has taken immediate measures to ensure that inmates who belong to or are suspected of being part of any criminal gang in the City, are kept under strict vigilance during their stay in Jail.  They are moved to special high security wards and kept in separate cells.  This essentially means that no two or more inmates from different gangs are kept in the same cell.

He also said that they are not even moved through different parts of the Jail in heterogeneous groups.  The administration ensures that inmates from different gangs are kept in separate common areas of the jail.

Apart from being moved with the Jail, even if the inmates are being moved to and fro from Court for a hearing, or to hospital for any treatment, etc. strict measures are adhered to for ensuring their safe movement.  These instructions have been conveyed to the City Police.

After the recent incidents of murder and firing, Kailash Trivedi has instructed the Jailors, Chief Warden and Wardens of the Udaipur Central Jail to ensure strict supervision, security and surveillance for all such inmates who belong to various gangs of the city. Kailash said that at present members of 2-3 gangs are lodged in the Central Jail.

The shooting at Balicha a couple of days ago, in which a gang member was murdered by another gang member suspected to be a vengeance shooting, has caused great concern and the juniors in the Jail administration and Police departments have been asked to make good use of CCTV and other monitoring tools available with them as safety measures.

Kailash also quoted an option of Transfer, where a troublesome and unmanageable inmate or situation leads to the transfer of an inmate from the Central Jail of one city to another closest City Jail.  This has happened recently when a local gang member was  ‘Transferred’ to ensure security.
