Corporators Protest against Dust Bins samples

Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) was embroiled in a religious controversy when Corporators raised objection on the sample dustbin designs citing religious considerations. Design of dustbin is seen to be resembling a Hindu deity and is very objectionable. Mayor has assured of taking strict action against the culprits, including contractor.
According to Mahendra Singh Shaktawat, Deputy Mayor, UMC, contractor has provided Corporation with a samples of Dust Bins that are to be installed in various parks as per proposal. One of the sample is closely resembles a Hindu deity as it is applied with ‘Tilak’ and is seen to be hurting religious sentiments.
The matter falls under Garden Committee which had provided work order for dust bins after a meeting held on 27th January. Though the committee had rejected these samples but around 12 of the samples had been stored with UMC, informed sources.
Archana Sharma, Corporator, UMC, said that the matter is closely related to one of the most important God, and on behalf of fellow corporators, we demand immediate suspension of respective officer and blacklisting of the contractor. She further added that they have also given a memorandum to District Collector requesting immediate action.
According to Satyanarayan Mochi, President, Garden Committee, UMC, these samples were presented before committee members and were rejected on the spot. He said that we will investigate as to how these dustbin samples were transported to UMC.
