Court Order Facilitates Reopening of Varun Mall
Varun Mall set to reopen. Families celebrate
January 2016 till date…its been over 6 months that 78 shop owners and their families have suffered for no fault of their own. Altercation between the UMC and builder Vijay Arora over illegal construction resulted in 78 operational shops being shut down in January 2016, following the seize of Varun Mall.
Jodhpur High Court , in a very humanitarian order passed on 12th July, has provided relief to over 300 individuals, families of the 78 shop owners who had operational shops in Varun Mall, the day the seize order was passed. UMC seized the Mall, after it was “realised” that the builder had constructed an underground parking and additional floors without relevant approvals. Being the biggest seize of UMC till date, the procedure took place on February 5 this year, when appropriate explanation was not provided by the builders on the show cause notice raised by the UMC.
High Courts order in favor of the shopkeepers will be implemented after the builder Vijay Arora has to deposit a security of Rs. 2 Crore (through Arora Khatri Samaj) with the UMC. This will ensure interim relief to the 78 shop keepers who have business there.
