Court unsatisfied with Lake Conservation Report of Udaipur

The hearing of the public interest litigation on Udaipur’s lake conservation was not considered satisfactory by the Judge of Rajasthan High court Govind Mathur and Justice Jayshree Thakur. The report contained various measures to save lakes from pollution.

Additional AG of government Dr. P.S Bhati presented in front of the bench various measures taken to stop immersion of idols in the lakes and stop the pollution of waters of Lake Pichola and Lake Fateh Sagar. Considering this, he told about construction of 4 separate tanks for idol immersion which was taken unsatisfactorily by the court.

The bench emphasized the example of Chandigarh’s Lake Sukna where there is complete prohibition of idol immersion. Besides idols, no other things can be immersed in the lake.

Additional AG Bhati told the bench that the order of prohibition of using plastic in the nearby areas was being put on stay by the lower court. The bench took this decision in amazement.

Significantly on 8th October last year, in cognizance the court had ordered to save lakes from pollution as the continuous practice of idol immersion was leading to rise in water level plus added colors were leading to death of fish.

To summon the factual report, the court had ordered to take necessary measures in regards to lake conservation.
