Directions Issued to Host Marble-Granite Fair in Udaipur By Feb 15
Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta reviews Panch Gaurav Programme progress covering tourism, sports, plantation and urban beautification
Udaipur, Jan 3, 2025 – Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta has called for a large-scale Marble-Granite Fair to be organised in Udaipur before February 15, along with exhibitions at major locations.
Mehta said this while chairing a review meeting of the Panch Gaurav Programme on Friday (January 2) evening at the Collectorate Mini Auditorium. He directed that this should be done in coordination with local marble-granite associations,.
District Industries Centre General Manager Shailendra Sharma shared that under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, Rs 25 lakh has been sanctioned for marble and granite, under which 11 workshops have been organised and market assistance has been provided to two units.
Detailed discussions were held in the meeting on the progress and implementation of publicity and action plans related to Udaipur district’s Panch Gaurav components — Forest Produce (Mahua), Agricultural Produce (Custard Apple), Sports (Swimming), Product (Marble and Granite), and Tourist Sites (Fateh Sagar and Lake Pichola) — and necessary directions were issued.
According to Panch Gaurav Nodal Officer and Joint Director (Statistics) Punit Sharma, projects worth Rs 2,610.44 lakh have been approved under the Panch Gaurav programme, of which works worth Rs 636.97 lakh have been completed, while the rest are in progress.
Urban Beautification
UDA Secretary Hemendra Nagar informed that work on the floating jet fountain and dynamic laminar fountain on Fateh Sagar has been completed, while electrical beautification and façade illumination are in progress. The District Collector instructed to increase the number of fountains and complete the project on time.
Udaipur Nagar Nigam Commissioner Abhishek Khanna shared that the jet fountain work between Daiji Ki Pulia and Chandpole has been completed, and tenders for Gangaur Ghat beautification are underway. Directions were also issued for the beautification of Mewar Gallery.
All-Weather Swimming Pool
Officials reviewed the project to make an all-weather swimming pool at the Maharana Pratap Khel Gaon. UDA Secretary informed that Rs 650 lakh has been sanctioned and the tender process is underway. Of the Rs 102.50 lakh received from the State Government, Rs 50 lakh has been allocated to UDA, and remaining funds will be utilised based on a detailed plan from the District Sports Officer.
Collector Mehta also directed that block-level swimming competitions be organised for talent search.
Custard Apple Processing
Sharma informed that for plantation work over 20 hectares at Balicha, Rs 40 lakh has been sanctioned for major works and Rs 45 lakh for publicity. Directions were given to prepare a comprehensive plan for establishing custard apple processing units and related industrial units in the district.
Awareness in Schools
The District Collector also instructed that awareness activities such as poster making, slogan writing, and Panch Gaurav development suggestion competitions be organised in schools. Art workshops should also be conducted, and the artworks displayed in government offices. He also directed that a Panch Gaurav tableau be showcased on Republic Day.
The Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, was instructed to promote Panch Gaurav through films, coffee table booklets and social media content. Promotion through FM radio was also proposed. Departments were directed to submit Panch Gaurav action plans for 2026-27.
Also present in the meeting were Deputy Director Tourism Shikha Saxena, Joint Director IT Pooja Sahu, Deputy Director Horticulture Kailash Chandra Sharma, Assistant Director (Secondary Education) Dr Dinesh Bansal and Assistant Conservator of Forest Surekha Chaudhary.
