With the launch of the Accessible India Campaign in 50 Metro cities across the nation, the Government has taken a positive step to assist the differently abled residents of the country.

This campaign is directed towards adding disabled-friendly infrastructure to public buildings, airports, and railways stations across the metros.

The Centre announced the introduction of Identity Cards for the differently-abled and the launch of a web portal and “Accessible India’ Mobile App – platforms that will let users notify officials of buildings that aren’t disabled friendly.

This campaign, as part of the Accessible India initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice will see to it that full access to disabled individuals is granted with ease in public areas – fitting of retrofitted ramps, disabled friendly lifts, toilets as well as signage for the same will be implemented.

Thawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment has said disability certificates will be issued to those who do not have such a document and the entire procedure will be made easier.  He announced that the Government will issue Universal Identity Cards that will have unique number, to all persons with disability, within the next 18 months.  This cards will be valid nationally.
