Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) has taken a decision to take up cleaning of roads and public areas, that are under the converted colonies scheme and beyond the municipal limits.

The tender process for this Rs 122 Crore project will close by 9th May. This will also include the door-to-door garbage collection services, which is already taking place in the 55 wards under the municipal limits.

Due to the absence of a garbage disposal and solid waste management system, garbage is strewn across roads and is thrown into sewage areas, causing issues such as blockage etc during monsoon.

Now, with the tender process ensuring that the work is transferred to private hands, the contractor(s) will ensure that garbage is collected from external areas and public areas as well and road side drains, dumped at the garbage collection depots allocated to each area and then consolidated collection will be done. The garbage will then be dumped at the trenching ground that is set up at Balicha.

UIT Secretary Ravindra Srimali said that this will ensure that colonies and public roads are always cleann and ensure hygenic disposal of solid and liquid waste.
