Women prisoners are being trained under small scale industries for employment inside jail.
The system of small scale industries has proved to be a great step for the women in jail. These women are being trained inside the jail walls by creating products under the banner of small scale industries.
There are women who are serving jail terms for crimes like robbery and murder and some are under trial. Small scale industries and NGOs are working towards providing employment to these women. Jail department is providing training and raw material to these women with the help of NGOs. There are around 44 female prisoners out of which 20 have been successful in making a variety of useful products. These products which are commonly used are puja thalis and prasad.
The point of concentration is that there is still no market available for the products prepared by these women. Though the products prepared by the male prisoners are already in circulation, products made by females still needs to be rolled in the market. Jail administration is on the lookout for a market for circulating products made by these women prisoners.
Male prisoners generally make coolers, durries and chairs which are rolled in the market and the income through these products is deposited in the prisoner’s account respectively. As per DIG Jail Preeta Bhargava, jail department is searching for a genuine market where products made by female prisoners can be rolled so that they can benefit through employment in jail.
