The UMC has initiated Free Water Supply through Tankers in areas affected by shortage of water supply during the Summer months.
In a first of its kind initiative, the UMC has directed the Garages Division of the Municipal Corporation, to issue short term tenders for the project.
Mayor Chandra Singh Kothari said that “over the years it has been observed that during the summer months certain areas in the city face tremendous water shortage. In the presence of Cabinet Minister, PHED and Ground Water Dept, Kiran Maheshwari during a meeting a few months ago, many local Councillors had complained of water shortage in their areas. This was when the decision was taken and the Administration was instructed to act upon it.”
Kothari further said that this facility will be provided in areas where the residents can ill afford to pay for the high rates of water prevalent during water shortage.
He also said that the Nigam can increase the number of tankers if they get support from Irrigation Department for providing water filters or overhead water tanks.
