Reiterating her commitment to turn the famous Mangarh Dham into a site of national importance, chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday said that the government would take all possible steps to set up a national museum at the historical site.

Raje was in Udaipur to pay homage to hundreds of tribal martyrs who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle. Thousands of followers of Govind Guru from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan gathered here on the 102nd anniversary of the massacre which is also known as Rajasthan’s Jallianwala Bagh incident wherein some 1,500 tribals were gunned down by the British force on November 17, 1913.

“This pious place instills great energy and spirit among people. Steps would be taken to ensure a planned and systematic development of the place into a site of international importance,” Raje said while addressing the gathering. She also urged the locals to undertake a massive plantation drive to turn the entire area into a green belt in the coming years. The chief minister also directed the Rajasthan Heritage Development and Managing Authority to chalk out a master plan for the development of Mangarh Dham in consultation with the stakeholders from neighbouring states.
