Hawkers demand license to trade

The street vendors and hawkers protested outside Udaipur Municipal Corporation today and demanded legalization of their work by issuing license.

They alleged abusive behavior from police and administration who force them to vacate their place which is prohibited in the law. The protestors said that UMC officials are lethargic in creating vending committee and issuing license.

UMC commissioner Himmat Singh Barhath said, “The vending committee is already formed but it needs approval from state government for further action.”

The committee will be under the leadership of UMC Commissioner. 40% members of the committee will be hawkers while rest 60% will be revenue officials and local corporators.

As soon as the committee receives approval, a survey will be conducted to decide hawker zone in the area and then license will be given to the registered hawkers.
