A Mandi for medicinal plants is all set to open up soon in Udaipur and a proposal for another in Phalodi has been sent to the Krishi Vipran Board.

A Mandi for medicinal plants is all set to open up soon in Udaipur and a proposal for another in Phalodi has been sent to the Krishi Vipran Board.

Through this, a platform will be available to the farmers and buyers of medicinal plant. The state government is giving a much-required fillip to the cultivation of medicinal plants in the state.

Ayurveda minister Rajendra Rathore said that a herbal mandi will become operational soon and another one will come up in Phalodi. He said this while taking part in a seminar on medicinal plants, organized by State Medical Plant Boards at Officers’ Training School in Jaipur.

He added that proposals for herbal mandis in Bhinmal, Sumerganj, Banswara and in other parts of the state are being prepared.

Member Secretary of State Medicinal Plant Board- DN Pandey said that the focus is being laid on evidence-based Ayurveda. He said that to promote medicinal plant agriculture, the center is providing financial assistance up to 90% of the total cost depending on the species which the farmer is growing.

He said that medicinal plants growing in the state are rich in active principal chemicals, which are available in better proportions. Since Rajasthan is arid region, the quality of medicinal plants is better than the medicinal plant cultivated in areas that receive good rainfall.
