Rajasthan High Court has put a stay on construction of Chowpati by Udaipur Municipal Corporation on the banks of Lake Swaroop Sagar.

Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti had raised questions on this project by UMC. Basis the petition, High Court has written to Collector, UMC Commissioner and UIT Secretary seeking reply within 4 weeks. Also, the High Court has put a stay on construction activity for the time being.

UMC had initiated construction of a food court (Chowpati) in an area of 6000 sq ft on the banks of Swaroop Sagar lake. Lake conservators however raised concern about its adverse impact on the lake and demanded halting of construction work. After this, Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti members filed a petition in High Court.
