Holi Celebration Date Confusion; March 3 or 4?

Confusion surrounds Holi 2026 celebrations; Rajasthan and MP declare March 2–3 holidays, while Delhi, UP and Haryana mark March 4 for Holi

 |

Udaipur, Feb 23, 2026 - There has been much confusion over when Holi will be celebrated with astrologers differing on the dates of Holika Dahan and Dhulandi. This is because of uncertainty on the Almanac calculations, lunar positioning and influence of Adhik Maas this year additionally with a lunar eclipse on March 3. However, calculations indicate that Dhulandi will be celebrated on March 4.

Some reports suggest that as per religious calendar calculations and traditional customs Holika Dahan will be observed around midnight on March 2 and Dhulandi on March 4.

However, there have been discrepancies in government calendars of different States regarding Holi holidays. While Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have announced Holika Dahan on March 2 and Dhulandi (Holi) on March 3, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have declared March 4 as holiday for Holi.

Offices in Rajasthan are to remain closed from February 28 to March 3 - Saturday-Sunday being weekends and March 2 and 3 declared Holi holidays.

As a result, government offices in the State will remain closed from February 28 to March 3.
