Illegal banners becoming Pain For Municipal Corporation

In the past few months, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation is facing a hard time where irrespective of their regular drive and notices, illegal banners and posters are growing day by day in which promotional, religious and political activities are being displayed.

According to the information provided, a team under the revenue officer of UMC was specially organised to stop such encroachments, whereas the squad while executing orders of higher officials removed hundreds of posters and banners from various parts of the city.

In further action against the offenders, the Corporation has identified around 200 other illegal posters; an FIR was filed against the respective owners, where some were levied a lump-sum penalty.

Irrespective of this drive, during the visit of Vasundra Raje Scindia (BJP Leader) earlier this month almost all the major circles of the city were flooded with huge banners. To top it all, and to rub salt on the ego of the Corporation, one banner was tied with a high mast light on one of the busiest roundabouts of the city.

Sources say that UMC has also enforced a law on illegal banners where one can only post their banners after due permission. The location of approved banner will be decided and communicated by the Revenue Department.

According to Nitish Bhatnagar, Revenue Officer, UMC “the squad in its drive across the city is removing a large number of such posters, but the number is rapidly increasing”.

Satyanarayan Acharya, Commissioner, UMC said, “revenue officers were instructed to take strict actions against all those who are responsible for this illegal act”, though the Commissioner did not point out any of the political parties for ignoring the law.
