Insurance company penalised for not settling claim amount.
An insurance company has been penalised for not settling balance amount of a mediclaim policy.
Consumer protection forum has penalised Oriental insurance company for not settling the balance claim amount of a mediclaim policy. Rajnish Jindal resident of Subhash Nagar took a mediclaim policy from Oriental Insurance Company almost 10 years back. On 20th November, Jindal learnt that his mediclaim policy was converted to a Happy Family Floater Scheme without his approval.
Oriental Insurance nominated Vipul Medicorp for all settlements in the policy. In 2014, Jindal had to undergo an eye surgery. The expense of the surgery came out to be 83 thousand 502 rupees. Vipul Medicorp reimbursed the surgery amount in two parts. An amount of 7685 rupees was short in reimbursement. Vipul Medicorp was given notices several times for the settlement of this balance amount which they did not pay even later.
The matter was taken to Consumer forum. President of the Forum Randhir Singh Naruka and Member Anubha Sharma issued orders to Vipul Medicorp for reimbursement of the balance amount of 7685 rupees at 9 percent interest along with a penalty of 6 thousand rupees.
