District Administration is facilitating all possible steps to enlist Udaipur, the City of Lakes among World Heritage Cities. The accreditation for this would be provided by World Heritage Convention Department of UNESCO. The decision was taken in a meeting of the local Heritage Committee at Collectorate.

According to Ashutosh Pednekar, District Collector, Udaipur, the city being famous for its lakes and cultural diversities deserves being mentioned in the World Heritage Cities list. The accreditation will warrant exponential boom in tourist attraction to the city, said Pednekar.

He also informed that the necessary documentation required for listing Udaipur among World Heritage Cities would be prepared soon and will be forwarded to UNESCO.

In conversation with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), it was discovered that “Udaipur is a perfect Contender to be listed among heritage cities”, said Ashutosh Pednekar.

Apart from this District Administration has listed around 380 heritage buildings across town, among which 170 are under private ownership while the rest are owned by Government. These are being earmarked for renovation that will include painting and installation of attractive lighting.

Pednekar further added that for renovating privately owned buildings technical assistance will be provided by the Government at no cost, although monetary expenses related to implementation would be borne by the owners of listed private buildings.
