6 lawyers have been acquitted from a 15 year old case. They were accused for creating traffic jam on the road in front of Collector’s office.
The case dates back to 2002. 15 years back, lawyers had protested in front of Collector’s office against former District panchayat member Luvdev Singh Krishnawat. Krishnawat was accused of thrashing up a lawyer of the District Bar Association. Agitated with this, lawyers had caused a traffic jam for almost an hour and a half in front of Collector’s office.
6 senior lawyers were held responsible for the traffic jam by the police. In the absence of proofs against these 6 lawyers, Court acquitted them this Tuesday. Even the witnesses refused testimony. The court of Judicial Magistrate Deepika Singh ordered the acquisition of Prakash Paneri, Praveen Khandelwal, Rajesh Singhvi, Ramesh Nandwana, Ragini Sharma and Hukum Raj Singh Ranawat.
A report was registered against the above 6 lawyers and 30 others by the police in Hiranmagri Police station under Section 283 and 149. The police officer who registered this report did not present himself before the court for giving his statement. The witnesses in this case refused to recognise the accused lawyers. Investigating officer and other police officers were well acquainted with these lawyers hence their statements were not given importance. As per police diary, traffic jam was done by the lawyers on 11th January 2002.
As per the accusation of the lawyers, Luvdev Singh Krishnawat had beaten up Advocate Vijay Dangi. The lawyers also said that police were not arresting Luvdev Singh since he was a relative of Gulab Singh Shaktawat who was Home Minister then. The time when lawyers created a road jam, SP police was holding a meeting reviewing crimes in the district. Lawyers had created a traffic jam for one and half hour (1-2:30).
