CEO of Udaipur Smart City company and Commissioner of Udaipur Municipal Corporation, Siddharth Sihag has said that the ground work for deploying luxury city buses in Udaipur is almost complete.

Sihag said that initially the budget for this project, prepared to ply 43 buses in the city for public transport was Rs 32 Crore.  However, after the initial tender process, the budget needed to be extended to Rs 60 Crore.  In view of this increase, approval needs to be taken from the Centre.

To facilitate this project at the earliest, the proposal and plan has been sent to the Centre for approval, said SIhag.

Note, that under the Smart City project, 35 new luxury buses were planned by the Smart City project team.  This will be in addition to the 8 buses already plying on the city roads.  To ease the public transport situation on the already congested roads, these 43 buses will ply across the city.

Once approval is received from the Centre, the tendering process will restart.  Work orders will subsequently be processed and the selected firm will deploy the buses on the city roads.  Low carbon emission being the purpose of the Smart City mission, the administration is taking such steps to ensure that unregulated private and public transport, especially dark emission auto rickshaws, buses and such be reduced on the road, and people use public transport for getting to office, school, college and market.  Cycling is also being promoted across the city.
