Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) installed the Statue of Meera Bai in a Park at Daitya Magri. Notably, as per a proposal passed in a meeting, it was planned to have the statue installed in the premises of Meera Girls College. The requisite permission was not granted by the college and hence the decision to move the statue to the park was taken.
According to Prem Singh Shaktawat, President, Development Committee, UMC, proposal of installing Meera Bai’s statue within Meera Girls college campus was forwarded to College Administration. This proposal was however rejected on grounds of absence of permission from divisional commissioner.
Prem Singh Shaktawat further added that statue of Meera Bai is 5.9 feet in height and weighs about 3 tons. The same had been manufactured in Jaipur and was transported to Udaipur on 3rd February. Since college did not grant permission, the statue was installed in a park at Daitya Magri.
Sources informed that students of Meera Girls College had demonstrated demanding the installation of Meera Bai’s statue in campus. The protest was however calmed after assurance from the administration of installation of another statue on college’s expense in the campus.
