The order issued by the National Green Tribunal two months back to decrease the level of pollution in Udaipur took a backseat due to lack of coordination among the departments. The order was to be handled collectively by State Government, District Administration, Transport, Pollution Control Board and Traffic Police.

According to a local daily there are around 2 Lac vehicles in the city and only 9 machines to detect the pollution level. On the other hand, petrol pump owners objected the order to not to provide fuel to the vehicle without the PUC saying that it’s the responsibility of administration to do to the mandatory check and they will continue to provide fuel to the vehicles.

The order by the Green Tribunal stated that no fuel will be allowed to the vehicles without the PUC after 1st July which apparently has become a mere statement on the paper due to negligence of the departments.

If facts are to be considered then there are total 4.70 Lac vehicles in the city out of which 2.60 Lac vehicles are PUC checked whereas the rest 2.10 Lac vehicles need to have the PUC sticker. Also, around 1.80 Lac two-wheeler and 30,000 three & four-wheeler lack PUC check.
