Not so Smart: Udaipur ranks lowly in Smart City fund utilization
Udaipur has utilized Rs 28.86 Cr out of Rs 196 Cr allocation amounting to 14.7% fund utilization. Guwahati ranks the last with 1.72% fund utilization.
Udaipur has been a laggard in terms of fund utilization for the Smart City project over the last three years. Udaipur has utilized less than 15% funds released under the Smart City project.
Surat, Kakinada and Ahmedabad have taken the top 3 ranks in terms of fund utilization and projects under implementation. Surat has utilized 99.9% funds allocated under the mission since 2016. Kakinada is a close second with 99.3% fund utilization.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had started its flagship Smart City programme in January 2016 under which 20 cities were first identied for the mission. Half of these cities are yet to utilize 50% of their allocated funds.
