Around 17 Councillors of opposition party walked out from the 13th Board Meeting held at UMC campus today; alleged that Chairperson is biased on suggestions and development work being carried out in various wards. The walk-out resulted in less than 66% majority required for budget approval, yet the meeting carried forward and the opposition gave memorandum to District Collector against the Board Meeting.

17 councillors of UMC walked out before discussing the budget proposal of 2013-14. The opposition councillors disregarded the meeting as they didn’t receive any satisfactory answers on development work carried out in town in current session. They also alleged that Rajni Dangi is partial in allotting sub-division work in any of the Ward falling under Congress councillors.

According to the sources, Rajni Dangi in the very first session of BJP Board allotted Rs. 5 lac per councillor so as to carry out development work in their respective wards. The amount was raised to Rs. 10 lacs in the second year, while in the current year it rouse to Rs.20 lacs, though the work had to be done in accordance with tender notice issued.

Under the prevailing reasons opposition demanded a satisfactory reply which was overlooked by the chairperson even after several request and ultimately resulted in walk-out of congress leaders, leaving the majority less than 66% for the budget sanction.

“It requires at least 66% majority for the Board to pass the budget, as 17 congress councillors walked out and 13 other BJP councillors were absent in meeting, the sanction of budget is against the laws of the Council Act”, said Dinesh Shrimali, one of the councillors in opposition.

“Since total presence was more than 66% before the meeting started, therefore the sanction of budget is valid and not void”, said Satyanarayan Acharaya, Commissioner, UMC.
