Delhi Gate junction is arguably the most congested and heaviest traffic junction in the city. UIT carried out a major step towards decongesting the junction by an overnight demolition yesterday night.

The wall around the LIC premises (that houses Rex Studio) was taken down last night. Bulldozer was pressed into service at around 10pm last night and the operation was completed by 12:30 midnight. The team also then removed the concrete spillage overnight and had the entire area flattened. The operation was carried out under the guidance of a team led by UIT Secretary Ram Nivas Mehta.

With UIT having completed its course of action, ball is now in the court of Municipal Corporation and Traffic police to smoothen the traffic in this area. It is being speculated that the measures of making the Delhi gate signal too a smart signal (along lines of Surajpole) may be reinitiated. The last attempt at making Delhi Gate signal free had faced resistance to bottlenecking at this area outside the LIC building.

Removal of the wall and extension of the road in this area will serve a huge relief primarily to people going from Collectorate towards townhall area.
