Private Bus Strike: Transport Dept Says No Compromise on Passenger Safety
Rajasthan’s private bus strike enters second day; Roadways buses see 25% rise in passenger load amid operator protest; both sides remain at odds over the issue
Udaipur, Feb 25, 2026 - Till Wednesday, February 25, no solution appeared to be in sight regarding the strike called by private bus operators across Rajasthan. The Transport Department has made it clear that there will be no compromise on passenger safety under any circumstances.
Private bus operators have been on strike across the State since the midnight of February 23, impacting several districts.
In Udaipur, travellers were under a lot of stress with more than 100 private bus operators on strike. Long queues were seen at Rajasthan Roadways bus depots even as people struggled to buy tickets. As per reports, passenger load in State-run Roadways buses have increased by nearly 25%.
Private bus operators across the State are protesting against what they call the Transport Department’s “unjust” action against alleged illegal operation of private buses. Bus operators demanded that the ongoing enforcement action be stopped. They allege that after the Jaisalmer accident, the department has been imposing heavy fines, canceling fitness certificates and even revoking registrations of buses that have valid permits and fitness approvals.
No talks were held between Transport Department officials and bus operators on Wednesday. Private bus operators remain firm on their demands and have warned of a protest rally on Thursday (February 26). The department has said that only legitimate demands will be considered. Both sides remain at odds over the issue.
According to the All Rajasthan Contract Carriage Bus Operators Association, the strike will continue as no talks were held with officials or representatives from the State Government on Wednesday.
